Tonga's speaker pleads not guilty to bribery charge

Tonga's new parliamentary Speaker, Noble Veikune, and two other men have pleaded not guilty to bribery charges.

The three appeared in the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court.

Noble Veikune was charged with one offence of bribery of a government servant.

It is alleged that in 2003 the three accused bribed government servants for the release of a container containing alcohol spirits.

The three are to heard again on May the 17th.
