The Chief Justice of American Samoa, Michael Kruse has warned that if improvements aren't made at the criminal juvenile detention centre he won't hesitate to put someone behind bars.

The Chief Justice visited the centre last week and found that juvenile inmates were sleeping on cardboards and mats and the facility lacked basic toiletries.

Mr Kruse has set a deadline of the twentieth of June for the government to make improvements and bring the local juvenile facility up to standard, or he claims he'll put some people behind bars.

The acting commissioner of public safety, Mike Fuiava says guards have started washing down the facility and they will repair the centre next week.

Mr Fuiava says the department will also get hold of bedding and toiletries for the facility.
