Spending by Japanese visitors to Guam drops

Japanese visitors to Guam are reported to be spending less money than they did ten years ago.

Guam's Pacific Daily News says figures from the Visitors Bureau indicate that in the last decade or so, the average local spending by a Japanese tourist during his or her trip has shrunk from 1,500 US dollars to about 500.

Japanese tourists bring in nearly all the revenue for tourist related industries and employment.

The drop in spending could add up to as much as 900 million a year that the local economy no longer realizes from the approximately 900,000 Japanese tourists who visit Guam every year.
