Talks over maintaining airlinks to Niue continue

New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade says talks are continuing to ensure a direct flight from Niue to Auckland will be maintained.

It is still unclear if the service currently run by Polynesian Airlines will continue when the airline merges with Virgin Blue later this year.

That service is underwritten by NZAid and the contract with Polynesian still had three years to run.

A Foreign Affairs spokesman, Brad Tattersfield, says further talks will be held next week with those involved in transport in the region.
