The Governor of Papua New Guinea's East Sepik province has called for a full investigation into alleged financial mismanagement in the provincial administration.

Governor Peter Wararu wants the investigation to cover the administraton, the treasury division, the Wewak storm damage project and the Boram General Hospital.

The allegations of financial mismanagement have already led to the suspension of the provincial treasurer.

The Post Courier newspaper says the Governor has asked for the national government to undertake a complete investigation into the financial affairs of the province.

He says he believes there have been serious breaches of the Public Finance Management Act in the awarding of contracts and payments made.
