Solomons says more support needed to improve rural banking services

The Solomon Islands Postal Corporation says more support is needed to improve banking services in rural areas.

The national postal service has just formed a partnership with the ANZ bank to provide a service and access to ATM machines.

Postmaster General, Samuel Sive, says it's a significant move, as many government and company workers have to travel far to get to a bank.

Mr Sive says the postal service is offering access to their network.

"That is our contribution towards this partnership. We will allow our buildings, and in some post offices our staff will actually run the banking services on behalf of the ANZ bank."

Mr Sive says the partnership is just a start and he's calling on the government to also help improve banking services in remote areas.
