A new Pacific Youth Development Strategy to improve the well-being of young Pacific islanders has been launched by the New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clark.

The strategy has been developed using a talanoa process involving youth, community leaders and government agencies.

The process has seen an External Reference Group established looking at relevant issues.

Miss Clark says the strategy aims to prepare Pacific island youth, through education and employment, to enjoy opportunities presented by the country's economic and social development.

It has three key focus areas of parents, education and the church.
