The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) says Fiji loses about 61-percent of its skilled workers overseas.
The Fiji Times reports that the OECD's 2004 report on trends in international migration says Fiji is registered to have lost the fifth highest number of skilled migrants, behind only countries such as Guyana, Jamaica, Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago.
The OECD is an organisation of 30 of the most developed countries committed to democratic government and the market economy.
The Fiji Bureau of Statistics' figures on skilled migration in the eight months from January to August last year show that almost 3,600 workers moved overseas, or an average of 450 a month.
Of these nearly 90-percent were ethnic Indians and 9-percent indigenous Fijians.
