10:19 am on 1 July 2005

The US Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin has met with McDonald's corporate director to discuss the legality of a lease agreement between the American Samoa government and the fast food chain.

McDonalds had planned to build a restaurant at Utulei, but the American Samoa senate said he informed McDonald's coporation director Bo Bryant of the Senate resolution opposing the beach front development.

Meanwhile Mr Byrant said he was not aware of these developments and expressed concern that there were questions surrounding the lease agreement.

The congressman is considering introducing legislation to include Utulei Beach as part of the National Park of American Samoa, to prevent any fast food business from building there.
