Fiji's police commissioner says there is a need for tighter security at all ports of entry to keep terrorists out of the country.
The Fiji Times reports that Andrew Hughes' comment follows an incident at Nausori Airport this week when two men arrived in a private New Zealand-registered aircraft, abandoned the plane, jumped over the perimeter fence and fled in a waiting car.
Mr Hughes says police want to know why the men chose not to go through Customs and Immigration as required.
He says it was a case of visitors not following proper procedures on landing even though police were present at the airport.
Mr Hughes says Fiji has an obligation to meet international requirements for airport security.
He says it is important to know who is arriving and there should be a mechanism in place to prevent terrorists from entering.
