4:22 pm on 7 July 2005

The American Samoan delegate to the US congress has contacted the US army in Hawai'i regarding soldiers from American Samoa that are stranded in Kuwait.

The Samoa News says 13 soldiers who are in Iraq and on now on leave are stranded in Kuwait because they have been unable to get seats on a commercial flight from Honolulu to Pago Pago.

Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin says the army has given an assurance that none of the soldiers will lose any leave days because of the airline problem.

He says the leave count for American Samoa soldiers will not begin until they arrive in the territory and the leave is for 15 days.
