Fiji's National Federation Party has asked its president to resign following his court appearance for sexual misconduct and assault.

Police have charged Dor Sami Naidu, a Nadi lawyer, with indecently assaulting a female employee in his office and then assaulting his wife when she walked in on the incident.

Both women reported the matter to the police.

Naidu has denied the charges in the Nadi magistrate's court and has been released on bail until the 21st of July.

The general secretary of the National Federation Party, Pramod Rae, says the party has demanded Naidu step aside until the charges are dealt with.
