PNG PM says he's not in the dark over KPMG appointment

Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare says he has been trying to bridge the gap that exists between state enterprises and the Independent Public Business Corporation following cabinet's decision to abandon the Telikom sale last year.

Sir Michael said as Minister responsible for State Owned Enterprises, changes could not be implemented overnight as proper procedures and processes have had to be followed.

The Prime Minister says the government had to work quickly to find a way forward for Telikom and the Telikom board decided last December to engage KPMG.

Sir Michael says the Chief Secretary Joshua Kalinoe can not interfere with the affairs of the IPBC or State Owned Enterprises.
