A high chief from Manu'a in American Samoa has suggested that the money to be spent on Cession day celebrations be given to the LBJ Hospital instead to buy medicine.

The chief said during a meeting of the Manu'a district he recommended that the celebration be scrapped and traditional leaders of Manu'a hold a fundraising on Friday for the hospital.

He also told the meeting that the critical medicine shortages at the hospital have caused many deaths and the situation is no different than the suicide bombers in Iraq.

He estimated that the money which will be spent on Friday's celebration on Manu'a will not be less than $30,000.
