The council of the University of Papua New Guinea says students must cease a week of protests over its grading policy and other issues, and be back in class today.
A meeting of the university council yesterday on the campus in the capital, Port Moresby, resolved that the academic year must continue.
The vice-chancellor, Professor Les Eastcott, says beefed-up security on campus is encouraging students to return.
"Many classes were conducted yesterday, and there were a number of students who didn't go to class, but simply didn't go to class because they were still worried about their own physical health. We're quite confident that by the end of this week, classes will be operating relatively normally."
A student representative says they'll keep away from classes until Professor Eastcott resigns... last week they burnt his car and clashed with police.
Meanwhile, the higher education minister has agreed to organise an independent party to review the university's grading policy.
