Fiji workshop to improve land management

3:28 pm on 26 July 2005

The Fiji government is holding a national workshop to improve land management.

The Department of Land Resources, Planning and Development are wanting to strengthen ties with land owners, donors and NGO's.

Land planner Christine Fung says they hope to develop a framework to enable government agencies and stakeholders to better coordinate their efforts towards sustainable land management.

She says the recently endorsed National Rural Land Use Policy and the revised National Forest Policy will also be discussed.

"We hope it'll be umbrella policies for the land based Resource Act. And both the Acts and policies will go to towards sustainable land use management. 10"

The two day workshop begins in Nadi on Wednesday.
