Solomon Islands to hold talks with creditors

10:16 am on 2 August 2005

Solomon Islands Finance Minister, Peter Boyers says the talks to be held in Honiara next month with government's debtors will be very important for the country.

He says the financial organisations to be represented have been patient with the government so far.

"One of the projects was with the Worl Bank. I think that was back in the 80s or 90s. That was a World Bank project for education - it was a very big line(of credit)"

The ADB in the past has funded infrastructure projects. These are long out-standing accounts.

Mr Boyers says the talks will decide how the government copes with its bills for the next few years.

He explained the talks will also include local creditors.
