The Chief Executive of Samoa's cabinet and prime minister's office is to stand as a candidate in the general election.

The Samoa Oberver reports that Auseugaefa Va'asatia Poloma Komiti confirmed he would stand in the Safata constituency.

Auseugaefa is one of the country's top public servants and it's understood that several of his colleagues are also considering standing as candidates in the March elections.

The Safata constituency has two seats and is expected to be keenly contested.

They are currently held by a cabinet minister and an independent.
