New party to be launched in French Polynesia

A former French Polynesian government minister, Jean-Christophe Bouissou, says he is still a few weeks away from launching his new party.

Mr Bouissou resigned as minister in February over President Gaston Flosse's broken electoral promises but maintained a key post in the party, the Tahoeraa Huiraatira, when it went into opposition.

Mr Bouissou says many people object to the pro-independence stance of the new president, Oscar Temaru, and at the same time no longer want the return of Mr Flosse.

"We have two persons that we respect for all they have done during their political life, but it seems like today they try to lead the country into a hole that nobody wants."
