More than 10,000 people turned up at a protest rally in Hawaii in support of a private school's appeal against a U.S. federal court ruling that overturned its admission policy of giving preference to native Hawaiian children.
A court ruling last week deemed the Kamehameha school's policy amounted to unlawful race discrimination, after a student was twice denied admission to the school because he had no links to Hawaiian ancestry.
The Honolulu Star bulletin reports that Governor Linda Lingle joined other supporters yesterday to protest against the court ruling and voiced her support for the school to keep its century-old admission policy.
