The Special Coordinator of the regional assistance mission to Solomon Islands, James Batley, describes the Foreign Investment Bill as a positive reform.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports Mr Batley was supporting the comments by Commerce Minister Walton Naezon.

Mr Batley says it will help Solomon Islands become a more competitive country in the Pacific.

He says passing the Bill will not, by itself, be enough to boost the economy, but he says there's no simple short cut to economic growth.

Mr Batley says as the International Monetary Fund notes in a recent report, it's important that good intentions turn into legislative reform.
