Businesses will receive a boost if PNG's highlands highway rebuilt - Enga government official

In Papua New Guinea's Enga Province, a government worker says China's decision to help fund the restoration of the Highlands Highway will be a boost for businesses.

The National government has already earmarked 68-million US dollars to repair the road.

Electoral officer Pias Yapahlin is a frequent user of the Highway - the only road linking seven Highlands provinces.

Mr Yapahlin says he knows many industries in Enga would benefit hugely from the road's upgrade.

"The Highlands Highway is the only road linking the Highlands and that's where most of our crops like coffee and tea, which are grown up in the islands are transported down to Lae."
