The Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General, Greg Urwin, has welcomed moves by the Government of Nauru to modify two regional good governance codes for national use.

He says Nauru and other member countries can count on the Forum's support in efforts to implement good governance initiatives.

Nauru's acting President, Dr Kieren Keke, called a meeting last week to discuss the development of a draft Nauru Leadership Code.

The meeting used two Forum documents - the 1997 Eight Principles of Accountability and the 2003 Principles of Good Leadership.

Nauru has since indicated it wants technical assistance from the Forum to develop its national leadership code.

That request follows a visit to Nauru by a Forum team promoting good governance.

Last month, Tuvalu tabled draft legislation for its leadership code following consultations with stakeholders and technical support from several partners including the Forum Secretariat.
