The Fiji and Vanuatu Governments have agreed to try and find a resolution to a trade dispute which has seen bans imposed on Vanuatu kava and Fiji biscuits.
At the end of the Melanesian Spearhead Group meeting in Papua New Guinea last week, the Vanuatu delegation made an undertaking to ensure steps are taken to remove all restrictions as soon as practicable.
The Pacnews agency reports that Fiji's Foreign Minister, Kaliopate Tavola, informed the meeting that it will seek Cabinet approval to reverse the ban imposed last week on kava imported from Vanuatu.
Fiji's kava importation restrictions came after Vanuatu lifted a ban on Fiji biscuits but then imposed a 50 percent duty and quota system on the product.
