A unoccupied house belonging to the King of Tonga has been burnt down.

Police received an emergency call early this morning that the building located at Mu'a was on fire.

Police commander, Sinilau Kolokihakaufisi, says when they arrived at the house it was too late to save it.

"It's a fair distance from here to that part of Tongatapu. It took the fire service about ten minutes to get there. When they arrived, the whole house, about 60 feet by 44, was all gutted."
