Cooks cargo ship returns to Rarotonga after days adrift without fuel

10:23 am on 8 September 2005

A cargo ship which ran out of fuel in the Cook Islands arrived in Rarotonga this morning.

The Manu Nui had left Pukapuka and was on its way to Palmerston when it ran out of fuel, and drifted.

It's since met another ship for refuelling, and then off-loaded its cargo at Palmerston.

The boat's owner Josh Taio says he's waiting to interview the skipper.

The head of the transport ministry, Aukino Tairea, also wants to ask the captain why the boat ran out of fuel.
