Reports from French Polynesia say President Oscar Temaru is expected to attend next month's Constitution Day celebrations in Niue.

The Tahitipresse news agency says he was invited to the celebrations marking 31 years of Niue's independence in association with New Zealand.

The island was helped by the French Polynesian GIP force last year after it was hit by Cyclone Heta.

GIP members delivered 1,400 tonnes of relief supplies and built 20 houses for cyclone victims.
