The Cook Islands prime minister, Jim Marurai, is expected to fly to Auckland today, to make preparations for his wife's funeral.
Tuaine Marurai died New Zealand this week after a long illness.
The Cook Islands News reports Mr Marurai will escort his wife's body back to Rarotonga on Monday.
People in her home island of Mangaia are preparing for her funeral there on Tuesday afternoon.
