The World Health Organisation representative in Papua New Guinea says measles is among the main causes of child mortality in Papua New Guinea.
The WHO regional meeting in Noumea has been told that child mortality in PNG has not dropped in the past ten years, with 9 out of 100 children dying before they are five.
Dr Andre Reiffer of the WHO in PNG says measles as well as the diarrhea and respiratory diseases could be prevented.
He says the main reasons are a lack of access to health centres and difficulties in coordination.
"If you talk money, I think in general there is agreement that there is enough money coming into the country to actually run the system."
