A man who jumped over the fence at the Fiji president's official residence and entered a bedroom has told a magistrate he wanted to taste the high life.

Iowane Tuinamasi broke into Government House on Thursday night and turned on the sound system, waking up the First lady, Adi Kavu, who raised the alarm.

He was arrested doing press-ups to the music and when produced in a Suva court he said he wanted to taste the life lived by people who lived high up in society.

Magistrate Nadakuitavuki has ordered Tuinamasi to undergo a psychiatric examination.

The military is reviewing security at Government House.
