Muavaefaatasi eyes American Samoa's Congress seat

3:04 pm on 3 October 2005

An American Samoan member of the local legislature, Muavaefaatasi Ae Ae Jr., is set to contest the territory's seat in the US Congress.

Although he hasn't officially announced this, the long-time Pago Pago lawmaker is already circulating campaign paraphernalia like business cards and pens.

Muavaefaatasi deferred making a statement on his campaign material until after he has consulted with his advisors.

But he says there'll be more paraphernalia coming out in the weeks and months ahead.

The territory's non voting representative in Congress is Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin who is serving his eighth term in Washington.
