The Papua New Guinea telecommunications company, PNG Telikom, is to approach the Government for a capital injection of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Business groups have recently written to the Government demanding action over the state company's dilapidated infrastructure.
They say the main underwater cable - to Australia - should have been replaced five years ago.
But the chairman of PNG Telikom, Dr Florian Gubon, says the concerns are overstated.
He says a team of international consultants has been assessing the state of the company and the board is about to act on their recommendations.
"I will be sending a letter to the Prime Minister to get Government support or approval for us to spend up to about 350 million kina, in terms of total investment, to upgrade the whole system network, and tht is all in the planning at this point."
