American Samoa wants expert help over wind power possibilities

8:34 pm on 6 October 2005

The American Samoa Power Authority is requesting technical expertise to help develop wind energy as an alternative to fuel generated power.

The Authority's chief operations officer, Fonoti Perelini, says they want to review data on wind generation tests, and to determine the best sites for wind mills in the territory.

An energy expert from Europe is visiting Fiji and Samoa next month and Fonoti wants him to also visit American Samoa.

He says they also want to send officials to learn more about wind power at a seminar in Fiji next month.

Fiji is one of the more advanced countries in the region in terms of wind power having already contracted a company to supply and install generators.
