2:07 pm on 12 October 2005

Tonga's Prince Tu'ipelehake has become the first ever patron of the Human Rights and Democracy Movement.

A statement from the Movement quotes the Prince as saying that he supports the organisation because it's an avenue for informing people about their basic rights under the Constitution.

He says the movement also promotes people's freedom.

Meanwhile, the Reverend Simote Vea retains the chairmanship, with Lopeti Senituli as his assistant.

The MP Akilisi Pohiva is the movement's secretary.
