Fiji's Native Lands Trust Board has warned that more than 13,000 families face eviction for land rent arrears of over US$4 million.

A Fiji Times report says according to the NLTB, the amount of arrears makes up about 85 per cent of the Board's annual income.

The NLTB's executive officer, Nimilote Naivalumaira, is quoted as saying tenants are not honouring lease arrangements and not giving priority to rent payments.

He says the NLTB has already evicted some families and will go to court to begin eviction proceedings against others if necessary.

Mr Naivalumaira says the NLTB has adopted the policy to ensure that it recovers all outstanding land rent arrears which have been accumulating over several years.
