The chairman of the Rarotonga Electricity Authority, George Pitt, has been removed from office less than six months into his new term.

The Cook Islands News reports that the Cook islands Investment Corporation was advised to terminate Mr Pitt's tenure in office following a cabinet meeting chaired by acting Prime Minister Dr Terepai Maoate early this week.

Mr Pitt, owner of the Pitt Media Group, has confirmed receiving a letter informing him of cabinet's decision.

He says he knows who is behind the decision and warns cabinet that he will bring the government down.
