Papua New Guinea expected to reject new Solomon Islands High Commissioner

Papua New Guinea is indicating that it will reject the appointment of a new Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Port Moresby, following his arrest.

The proposed appointment, as chosen by the cabinet, is former permanent secretary, and current registrar of the Solomons College of Higher Education, Lucien Kii.

Kii was arrested by police as he was about to board a Port Moresby-bound aircraft for the Forum summit.

He's been charged with allegedly compensating himself hundreds of thousands of Solomon Islands dollars for a property and for depositing a government cheque into his personal account.

Highly placed government sources say the PNG government has indicated it does not want to see Kii in Port Moresby as the High Commissioner.
