Samoa's airline ends flights to Hawaii

4:32 pm on 3 November 2005

Samoa's Polynesian Airlines has stopped its weekly flight between Apia and Honolulu.

This means that passengers flying from the Samoas to Hawaii are expected to travel via American Samoa's Pago Pago airport and catch flights offered by Hawaiian Airlines.

Because of US permit requirements, Polynesian is changing its inter island flight schedule to ensure that Tongan and Samoan citizens will only be transiting in American Samoa.

There were calls by Tongans and Samoans in Honolulu to maintain the Apia flights but Polynesia's jet service has been discontinued following the airline's merger with Virgin Blue of Australia.
