French Polynesian president set for Paris visit

9:23 am on 4 November 2005

Reports from Paris say the French Polynesian president, Oscar Temaru, will visit the French capital in the second half of this month.

The news agency, AFP, reports this information comes from the French Polynesian delegate in Paris, Thierry Teai.

Mr Temaru, who favours independence from France, had been scheduled to visit at the end of September.

Mr Teai says relations between French Polynesia and Paris are getting back to normal.

He says Mr Temaru could be received by president Jacques Chirac, an occasion which didn't come to pass when Mr Temaru last visited Paris in June.
