A stand-off between the police management in Papua New Guinea and up to 180 mobile squad officers appears to have been resolved.

The officers demanded payment of special allowances promised to them for providing security for the recent Pacific Islands Forum leaders' meeting.

They blockaded the Bomana police training college on the outskirts of the capital, Port Moresby, until they received assurances they would be paid.

The Events Council chairman Sir Peter Barter, who's also the Minister of Intergovernment Relations, confirmed payments totalling US$330,000 had been released.

The Police Minister Bire Kimisopa said he expected the protesting officers to face disciplinary measures for their actions at the college.
