US senators consider tax relief for Northern Marianas garment industries

7:08 am on 7 November 2005

The United States Senate is considering giving products imported from American territories the same treatment as products imported from countries with which the US has entered into a free trade agreement.

The measure aims to help the garment industry in the Northern Mariana Islands to remain competitive with other countries.

The CNMI governor Juan Babauta said in a statement that this was truly a collaborative effort and he was most encouraged by support from both Democrats and Republicans in Congress.
