French Polynesian hospital workers union threatens to go on strike

4:17 pm on 8 November 2005

Hospital workers in French Polynesia say they will go on strike in a week.

They have issued a strike notice for a number of hospitals in Tahiti, Raiatea and the Marquesas islands after the government failed to meet their demands.

The union representing them says the workers want all provisions of a protocol from last February implemented.

It says eight months later none of the points of the protocol has been respected.

If there is no agreement, the strike will begin in a week.
