A New Zealand-based company which was to launch flights in American Samoa has cancelled its plans.

Amerika Samoa Air Limited has informed employees which it had hired that the airline operation was no longer viable for the investor parties involved.

Its President and CEO, Lucky Ma Chee, says various economic and political events have affected the viability of the proposed airline.

Mr Ma Chee says the company has incurred financial losses during the preparatory and start up phase in terms of aircraft deposits, consultancy and professional fees and numerous other costs, which cannot be recovered.
