An appeal court in Paris has sentenced a French Polynesian woman to 20 years in prison for killing her three-year-old son by submitting him to torture.

Angelina Aka, who's 41, was sentenced three years ago by a local court.

Aka was given a 30-year jail term but after the case was retried in Papeete, it was ruled the maximum penalty was 22 years imprisonment.

The case was then referred to Paris, where a judge has just ruled on a sentence of 20 years.
