Seven people in Solomon Islands are reported to have travelled four days in a small canoe in a desperate attempt to find food for the people remaining on their remote island of Anuta.

They have just made a 420 kilometre journey to Nendo in the Santa Cruz group as George West reports.

"The nine metre long double hull vaaka carrying seven passengers has taken four days under sail to reach the Santa Cruz islands. The leader of the expedition, Norm Less Voi says it is alomst Christmas and the island has almost run out of essential supplies so he had decided to undertake the risky trip to do shopping on Santa Cruz."
