Reports say people on the Carteret Islands in Papua New Guinea are to be moved from their homes because of rising seas attributed to climate change.
The Reuters news agency reports a decision has been made to move the islanders to nearby Bougainville.
Ten families at a time will be moved, over one to two years, once funds are allocated for the resettlement programme.
The senior district co-ordinator in Bougainville, Joe Kaipu, is quoted as saying some of the Carteret Islanders' homes have been washed away.
Mr Kaipu says the only action now is to resettle them.
