Project to wire up Easter Island

The local council on Easter Island is backing a project to wire up the Chilean territory with the latest communication technologies.

The Santiago newspaper, La Nacion, reports the programme is being developed by the University of Vinya del Mar with the support of Entel Chile, Cisco Systems, Microsoft and Hewlett Packard.

Rapa Nui Global aims to equip the island with the latest technologies to connect it with the rest of the world and help the territory's educational, cultural and commercial development.
