A Fiji diplomat has promised to go back to the Papua New Guinea island of Bougainville to convince six former Fiji soldiers to leave the island, where they've been training rebels.
The second secretary at the Fiji high commission, Emosi Rakai, has escorted two former soldiers, Freddy Rokodi and Sam Baroi back to the capital, Port Moresby, where they are being questioned this afternoon.
The Bougainville provincial president, Joseph Kabui, says Mr Rakai has vowed to return.
"The second secretary, of the Fijian high commission, informed us, he passed that information to us before leaving with the first two Fijians who are in fact are the leaders of the Fijian contingent here on the ground."
President Kabui says the two Fijians had given training to security men employed by the U-Vistract investment scheme manager, Noah Musingku.
Mr Rakai has expressed profound regret and apologised to the Bougainville government for the activities of his compatriots.
The Christian Mission Fellowship in Fiji would neither confirm nor deny information from a credible source that Mr Rokodi was a member of the organisation.
