New Caledonian union support for action against SLN grows

4:56 pm on 1 December 2005

The New Caledonian trade union representing Polynesians, or STOP, has expressed its support for the strike actions by CSTNC against the SLN nickel company.

The CSTNC union has been on an indefinite strike for more than two weeks.

A Kanak activist, Jacques Boengkih, says STOP argues it is necessary to support the strike action because many families suffer from the attitudes of the SLN management.

Mr Boengkih says this will add a new perspective to the strike.

"The fact that STOP has joined the CSTNC is something new and will strengthen the actions led by the trade union."
