Former Solomons PM critical of advisors

9:32 am on 5 December 2005

An Solomon Island MP, Bartholomew Ulufa'alu, has criticised some advisors for giving the government bad advice.

Mr Ulufa'alu singled out the World Bank in particular.

He says the economic difficulties the Solomons face today, such as a huge international debt, a poor agricultural output and poor business performance, are a result of these wrong suggestions.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports that the Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, has defended the presence of advisors.

Sir Allan said they did their best to serve the Solomons, but many previous governments did not follow their advice.

He also says Mr Ulufa'alu should blame himself, as the government lost lots of money when he was an economic advisor.
